Here’s your first look at HBO’s upcoming The Leftovers, a drama from Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta based on Perrotta’s 2011 book of the same name. The series is set three years after a rapturelike event causes 2 percent of the population to vanish — the kind of gripping central mystery that attracted Lindelof to the project in the first place, he told Vulture in 2012. Peter Berg directed the pilot, which stars Justin Theroux as a police chief and Liv Tyler as a woman being targeted by a cult. This teaser doesn’t really give us much from the show, but the brief glimpse is very ominous.
