Obvious Child, the new film from Gillian Robespierre, was one of the hottest movies coming out of Sundance, with it getting a distribution deal with A24. And for good reason! Dubbed an abortion comedy, it stars Jenny Slate as a very Jenny Slate–like comedian who finds herself pregnant, after having unprotected sex with a square (Jake Lacy) as a rebound from a recent breakup. Slate in particular is getting noticed for her singularly hilarious yet incredibly vulnerable performance. The film is set for June 6. It really is a classic summer movie, but the bad guy’s superpower is messing up your life plan.
