The flood of TV show pickups and cancellations isn’t taking the weekend off. Earlier today, CBS massacred all of its remaining first-year comedies, pulling the plug on its charming Robin Williams/Sarah Michelle Gellar half-hour The Crazy Ones, the solidly performing Monday night mid-season sitcom Friends With Better Lives, and the TV adaptation of Bad Teacher. It also popped two of its first-year dramas, bidding farewell to Intelligence and Hostages. The past 24 hours also saw NBC putting a stake in Friday-night thriller Dracula and ABC privately confirming that it was leaving Suburgatory after three seasons, even though the comedy held on to something like 82 percent of its lead-in (The Middle). Also axed at ABC: Rebel Wilson’s Super Fun Night and Paul Lee’s The Neighbors. Not all of TV’s bubble shows got popped: ABC has ordered full seasons of Nashville and Last Man Standing, while CBS is keeping around a series many thought would be toast, The Mentalist. The Alphabet also majorly diversified its sitcom lineup, picking up a sitcom about an Asian family (Fresh Off the Boat, from Don’t Trust the Bitch creator Nahnatchka Khan) and one with a Latina lead (Cristela, starring standup comic Cristela Alonzo.)
