After teasing the event on their Twitter account earlier in the day, the Foo Fighters — who are recording their next album in various musically inclined cities around the country — took to New Orleans’s Preservation Hall at around 9 p.m. on Saturday for a 90-minute set that included their big hits and a guest appearance by Arcade Fire’s Win Butler.
According to the Times-Picayune’s Keith Spera, the band decided to move the show from one room in the venue to another so that fans could see them play through the windows. “Generally, musicians perform with their backs to St. Peter Street. On Saturday, they faced the street, playing to the general public through two sets of open shutters and French doors,†Spera wrote. As Dave Grohl and company had anticipated, “Shortly after the show began, the 700 block of St. Peter Street was shut down as crowds gathered to hear the invite-only performance.â€
