Fox Picks Up Gotham

Fox announced this afternoon that the network has officially picked up Gotham, a Commissioner Gordon origin story that does not include an actualized Batman — because when you engage with the Batman oeuvre, mostly of us think “man, I wish this were just a cop show instead of a superhero story!†The series stars Ben McKenzie as the young James Gordon, Donal Logue as his partner and mentor, and Jada Pinkett Smith as a violent gangster. The Penguin and Alfred are also around, as are tween incarnations of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, before they even don their respective special bat and cat suits. Perhaps as a nod to typeface synchronicity, the opening titles can be in Gotham?
