Up until now, the pre-VMA incidents have been strange, but fairly low-key: Iggy Azalea fell off the stage at a benefit concert and one of Nicki Minaj’s dancers got bit by a snake during rehearsals. But last night at Chris Brown’s (of course) VMA pre-party hosted at 1Oak, the scene turned violent: TMZ reports that shots rang out and Suge Knight, the former CEO of Death Row Records, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. This isn’t even the first time that Knight has taken a bullet at a VMA pre-party: In 2005, he was shot at a party in honor of Kanye West in Miami.
This time, he was able to walk out, and he was quickly taken to a hospital for surgery. Everything went smoothly, and Knight is now reportedly recovering in ICU. (Meanwhile Chris Brown tweeted: “It’s disappointing that we as a society can’t have fun or enjoy ourselves without any altercations sometimes. Miss me with the bullshit!!!†Dude, it’s not about you.) There isn’t a VMA curse or something, right?
