A few weeks ago, rumors swirled that Bill Murray would host the first episode of Saturday Night Live’s 40th year. The rumors weren’t true (Chris Pratt hosted the premiere), but they were part of widespread Murraymania, as well as the fervent wish that maybe, just maybe, Murray really would host this season. Vulture caught up with the actor at the Weinstein Company’s St. Vincent premiere, where he was holding up traffic and walking in the middle of West 54th Street to greet individual fans crowding the sidewalks. Murray said previous commitments would’ve made things difficult, but he’s not opposed to returning to Studio 8H. “I’d like to do it,†he said of hosting. “I think about it all the time, and go, Aw, that’d be fun to do. But you have to have the time. You’ve got to have the time to do it.†Aside from St. Vincent, in which he plays a curmudgeonly war-veteran-cum-babysitter, Murray has been busy working on HBO’s Olive Kitteridge miniseries, an untitled Cameron Crowe project, and just plain Bill Murray–ing. As for the rumors, Murray, with a stern look down the red carpet, said, “You know, if I were doing the show, I think that’d be a conversation between Lorne Michaels and myself, and I wouldn’t be reading about it elsewhere.â€
