Before joking that he’d do Iron Man 4 if Mel Gibson directed (which he has since made very clear was in fact a joke), Robert Downey Jr. talked frankly with Deadline about his apprehensions about continuing to play Iron Man, asking, “What’s the half-life of people enjoying a character?†He also explained that, at his age, he can’t really fit in other projects and young kids between Marvel movies like he used to. Still, when asked flat-out about it on The Ellen Show, RDJ admitted that he’s “in the middle of a negotiation†with Marvel to continue to be part of the franchise. Ellen pushed to make sure that meant another Iron Man, and RDJ said “yes†because he’s a people-pleaser. Also, in a Reddit AMA he held today, he said, “Sooner than later the Marvel Roster will be made public and all questions will be answered.†Does that mean there definitely is going to be an Iron Man 4? It’s hard to say. But it does mean you can’t say there definitely won’t be one. How about that logic, Tony Stark? Who’s the genius millionaire now?!
