When Vulture spoke with Scarlett Johansson this summer, she said she liked the idea of doing television and “having the time to really imagine a character in a much more in-depth way.†Well, it appears she’s about to get the chance. Johansson will produce and star in a miniseries based on Edith Wharton’s 1913 novel The Custom of the Country. Christopher Hampton (Atonement), who at one time wrote a Custom of the Country feature, will write the series. The book tells the story of Udine Spragg (Johansson), a Midwestern girl who tries to make it in New York City. Also, what if she’s able to use more than 10 percent of her brain?
