The American Film Institute announced today that it’s chosen Steve Martin as its annual Life Achievement Award recipient. Martin will make the second comedian to receive the award since its inception in 1973 following Mel Brooks in 2013. The award will be presented to Martin at the AFI Awards, which aren’t scheduled to air on TNT and TCM until June 2015. Other recent recipients of the AFI Life Achievement Award include Morgan Freeman, Shirley MacLaine, and Jane Fonda. Martin also received an honorary Oscar last year and ranked near the top of our “20 Greatest Standup Specials of All Time†list earlier this week.
