After spending nine seasons as Saturday Night Live’s head writer (or co-head writer), Seth Meyers knows how to write a parody. He can speak sketch like a programmer can speak code. That prowess was on full display last night during an incredible sketch that essentially parodied Aaron Sorkin parodies. Meyers, aware that Sorkin parodies are old hat, took it a step further by not just mocking Sorkin’s tropes but outwardly stating the tropes while doing it. It’s meta as hell and absolutely brilliant.
