Just like the demonic wanderer who goes by the name of Randall Flagg, it looks like the screen adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, long left for dead, is back causing more mischief. Deadline reports that the project has been picked up by Sony Pictures, which will co-finance the first film in a planned Dark Tower franchise. The project was originally conceived as a film trilogy with two season-long TV installments in between — an impossibly massive undertaking when the franchise was announced in 2010, but one that looks slightly more feasible now thanks to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter proving that it’s theoretically possible to tie a television show into a cinematic universe. Emphasis on the slightly: This is still a cumbersome beast, and there are a whole lot of reasons why it will not work. If it does, though, Aaron Paul is onboard.
