Netflix’s New Show Is Montauk, and It Is Not an Affair Prequel

Montauk — so hot right now, literally! Netflix announced today an eight-episode first season for Montauk, a new drama set in the titular Long Island town. The series reportedly concerns the disappearance of a young boy in 1980s Montauk, which makes it sound like it could sort of be a prequel to The Affair, except this time, the absent child results in “an extraordinary mystery involving top secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces, and one very strange little girl,†instead of existential despair and desultory boning. Netflix might finally have its own Lost!
