Some would say 1999’s She’s All That, starring Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook (back when they were very much all that), already had a sort-of remake with 2001’s Not Another Teen Movie. But not according to Hollywood! The Wrap reports that a remake of the Pygmalion-inspired rom-com is in the works, with Kenny Leon directing and Spike Lee’s wife producing — which hopefully means we’ll see some black actors in lead roles rather than swagless token friends and campus DJs (remember Usher?!). None of this matters, of course, unless the remake can somehow top the original’s theme song, Sixpence None the Richer’s “Kiss Me.†What a gem.
Update: BuzzFeed’s Emily Orley says The Weinstein Co. and Mirimax have not reached a deal for a She’s All That reboot. We can breathe again .. for now.
