Sony and Marvel have narrowed directing duties for their new Spider-Man saga down to five possibilities, Deadline reports. The tone they’re apparently looking for is something superhero-y, but with the emotion and humor of a Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (or something comparable, John Hughes–wise). With that in mind … Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are looking at Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies), Ted Melfi (St. Vincent), Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), John Francis Daley plus Jonathan M. Goldstein (Vacation), and Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) to direct Peter Parker through the grueling halls of high school. As Deadline points out, we’ll probably hear about a lead-actor decision before a director one, but let these soak in in the meantime.
