Tyler, the Creator — the odd and future king of the hip-hop collective OFWGKTA — decided to wax sentimental Wednesday night, and people are losing their marbles because of it. Going through some of his old Tumblr posts, the rapper began a tweet-spree about how he misses his crew and the good old days. He reminisced about messing up his leg, making “Trouble on My Mind,†and putting slugs on the faces of sleeping people. Oh, and here’s what everybody’s making a fuss about: He also kind of dropped a bomb along the way, implying that Odd Future might be “no more.â€
Initial reports have presumed the “7 letters†refer to OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, the full name of the Odd Future collective), but Tyler hasn’t yet elaborated on the tweet and what it could mean. (At time of publication he also hadn’t yet responded to any of these tweets.) It would be a logical assumption that the group has, in practice, disbanded, given that many of the original members — namely Tyler, Earl Sweatshirt, and Frank Ocean — have, like a gaggle of Beyoncés, forged their own successful solo paths. Still, here’s hoping there will be some clarity in the morning, as well as a revelation that this was all just a very belated April Fool’s joke.
Update: Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt have elaborated on the tweets … but we still have no idea what any of this means.
