Watch Jon Stewart’s Heartfelt Comments on the Charleston Church Shooting

Nine lives were lost yesterday at the horrific church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, so for last night’s Daily Show, Jon Stewart introduced the episode by being straight-up with the audience and admitting that it would be far from a joke-filled night. “This wasn’t a tornado. This was a racist,� Stewart said. “This was a guy with a Rhodesia badge on his sweater. So I hate to use this pun, but this one was black and white. There’s no nuance here.� Watch Stewart’s full response to the shootings above, in which he brings up a sad but true point about the state of racism and senseless violence in America today: “And that’s the thing… Al Qaeda, all those guys, ISIS, they’re not shit compared to the damage that we can apparently do to ourselves on a regular basis.�
