Jimmy Fallon is no stranger to covering U2 songs. Last year, when the band had to postpone their appearance on The Tonight Show after Bono’s bike accident, Fallon and the Roots busted out their best U2 impression to play “Desire.†Earlier this year, Fallon and the band busked in the NYC subway together (in “disguiseâ€), with the group taking the reins for “Desire.†But since Fallon’s such a proven U2 stan, the band invited Jimmy onstage at their Madison Square Garden concert Wednesday night to perform — what else? — “Desire.†(Fallon apparently guilted them with a sign that said “Singer with a broken finger.â€) Even the Roots got in on the fun for “Angel of Harlem.â€
After the show, Questlove shared a story about getting pulled over by the police at 16 while listening to U2 — a moment that forever changed how he hears the band. It’s worth a read.
