Following their much-buzzed-about Comic-Con panel, Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth stopped by Conan to do much more than belt out Cher covers. When asked about whether or not we’ll have seen the last of Katniss and the Districts after Mockingjay — Part 2 this year, Hutcherson may have said a bit more than Lionsgate would’ve liked, more or less confirming that more movies are already in the works. And when his co-stars look at him like that older sibling who knows you’re in big trouble — J.Law nervously mouths he’s kidding — not even Hutcherson’s backtracking (“We’ll see what happensâ€) can save him. “That’s the worst lying I’ve ever seen,†Conan rightfully calls him out.
So was this just a bit of harmless fan-baiting, or will we all be whistling for years to come? Despite Lawrence claiming that Hollywood probably thinks she’s getting “too old†to keep playing Katniss, Lionsgate has reportedly been “exploring†ways to carry on the franchise. The studio’s CEO told analysts back in February that he’s been “thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities.†Peeta, it seems, may have just given us all the early scoop.
