The final scene of Cruel Intentions was a touching one: It sent us off with the prep-school-uniform clad Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon) driving down a highway in the vintage convertible previously owned by her now-deceased lover, Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe), with his proto–Burn Book journal right by her side. Well, it turns out Annette was pregnant with Sebastian’s child at the time, and that son will now be serving as the lead character in an upcoming Cruel Intentions television revival, according to Variety. The script — which has been bought by NBC and backed by the original film’s writer and director Roger Kumble, producer Neal H. Moritz, and Unauthorized Musical Parody of Cruel Intentions creators Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin — will tell the present-day story of the 16-year-old Bash Casey. Abruptly stumbling upon his late father’s journal, Bash discovers his complicated family legacy that wasn’t previously known to him and, in a search for answers, moves from his small-town Kansas lifestyle to San Francisco to attend the prestigious, swanky Brighton Preparatory Academy on a scholarship. You go and claim your legacy, Bash!
