Gwyneth Paltrow recently spoke to Variety (via “Page Sixâ€) about the gender wage gap in Hollywood. Following in the footsteps of notable feminist Patricia Arquette’s Golden Globes speech, Paltrow says that the wage gap is “painfulâ€: “Your salary is a way to quantify what you’re worth. If men are being paid a lot more for doing the same thing, it feels shitty.â€
While she didn’t go as far as to say that Iron Man franchise co-star Robert Downey Jr. shouldn’t make what he does — Downey earned $80 million in 2015 to Paltrow’s $9 million — she does say, “Look, nobody is worth the money that Robert Downey Jr. is worth. But if I told you the disparity, you would probably be surprised.†Let’s just say that salary makes Downey the only person in Hollywood who can afford to shop on Goop.
