Original Ghostbusters cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts all have cameos in store for Paul Feig’s upcoming movie, but it looks like there’s one original we can’t count on seeing: Rick Moranis. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Moranis admitted that he was offered a role in the new Ghostbusters movie but decided to turn it down. “I wish them well,†he said. “I hope it’s terrific. But it just makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?â€
While a Ghostbusters cameo might not be in the cards for Moranis, he also told THR that he’s interested in returning to acting again, but he has his standards:
“I took a break, which turned into a longer break,†he says. “But I’m interested in anything that I would find interesting. I still get the occasional query about a film or television role … and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest, I’ll probably do it. [But Ghostbusters] didn’t appeal to me.â€
Paul Feig has been understandably frustrated about all the Ghostbusters cameos leaking to the press lately and Moranis told Empire in 2013 that he “wouldn’t not do it, but it’s got to be good,â€Â so there’s always the off chance that Moranis could show up after all. Personally, I’m more interested to hear whether or not he’d consider doing Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money anyway– Mel Brooks is just waiting for him to say yes.
