If you’re interested in what David Yates’s first forthcoming Harry Potter prequel will be like tonally, a producer on the project has answers. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has “the charm of the fourth,†David Heyman told EW on Thursday. Goblet of Fire director Mike Newell “talked about the fourth as being like an Indian musical — and it’s not that, but it’s got the humor of that film. It has the romantic comedy, that fish-out-of-water humor, that very human, natural character comedy. And now [Yates] is always looking for truthful, human moments. It’s never just a gag — he’s grounding [the storytelling moments] in a reality.â€
What’s interesting about the quote is Yates was also the director on the last four Potter movies, but hey, probably good to get inspiration from someone other than yourself. Heyman also added that aside from a sense of humor, Beasts will have a big heart. Darkness, too. So basically, a little bit of everything — a blend that served Goblet fairly well (comparatively) at the box office and very well critically. Yates’s latest Potter endeavor is due out a year from now, which means you have plenty of time to get reacquainted with all the quirks of Goblet.
