One day, the fact that a woman was paid as much as her male co-workers will hopefully not be news. Today, however, is not that day: Variety reports that, contrary to rumors that were going around last week, Scarlett Johansson was paid “roughly†the same amount of money as Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth for their work on Avengers: Age of Ultron. (Robert Downey Jr., an anthropomorphic goatee who identifies as male, is still the highest-paid Avenger.) The mag cites it as part of Disney’s overall strategy to serve female audiences and creators equally, which also included shelling out a large paycheck for Angelina Jolie in Maleficent. If true, that’s one pay disparity solved, three billion more to go.
