At a stop on her Rebel Heart tour in Stockholm on Saturday, Madonna took a moment to address the violence in Paris on Friday night. In a long and heartfelt speech, the singer talked about the difficulty of performing after such atrocities and the importance of community in the face of attacks on a way of life. “They want to silence us,†she said of the attackers. “And we won’t let them. We will never let them. Because there is power in unity, and I do believe that as much chaos and pain and senseless violence and terrorism that occurs around this world — not just in Paris — there is more goodness in this world.â€
At the end of her speech, Madonna had the stadium pause for moment of silence in remembrance of those lost (many of whom were in the music industry) before asking the crowd to join her in an acoustic rendition of “Like a Prayer.â€
