On an island full of eccentrics, it takes a lot of effort for any Briton to become a world-famous eccentric. One who did was Michael “Eddie the Eagle†Edwards, a farsighted, relatively unathletic skiing enthusiast who in the 1980s attempted to become Britain’s first Olympic ski-jumper. After multiple attempts at an Eddie biopic never left the ground, next year finally brings us Eddie the Eagle, starring Kingsman: The Secret Service’s Taron Egerton as Edwards and Hugh Jackman as a fictional trainer who believes in him. Edwards himself says the film is only about 10 percent accurate; it’s unclear whether that 10 percent will include his second career as a singer of popular Finnish novelty songs.
