Steven Avery, subject of the Netflix docu-series Making a Murderer, has filed to have his murder conviction appealed by the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, the Daily Beast reports. In the appeal, filed Monday, Avery’s legal team says the search warrant that investigators used to look for evidence of Teresa Halbach’s murder on the Avery property was not valid; police used it to search multiple properties, but Avery’s camp says the warrant only covered a single property. Avery also claims “Juror C.W.†told the jury room that Avery was “fucking guilty,†and that act “deprived Avery of an impartial Jury trial.†Since the show’s premiere, Steven Avery’s ongoing attempts to prove his innocence in the legal system have been joined by fan campaigns (and efforts by his family members) to get Avery and nephew Brendan Dassey exonerated for the 2005 murder.
