In September, Matt Damon made a poorly received comment on diversity in Hollywood during an episode of Project Greenlight. Now Damon, who was nominated for an Oscar for his turn in The Martian, has made some considerably less-controversial remarks about diversity in Hollywood and the lily-white Oscars. Speaking with the Associated Press, Damon said Hollywood has “a long, long, long way to go.†Damon went on, “We’re talking about huge systemic injustices around race and gender that are a lot bigger than the Oscars. They’re massive issues in our industry and in our country.†He said the changes the Academy is making to add more diversity is “a wonderful step,†but still just “a first step.â€
