Terminator 2 won’t be coming to a screen near you on May 19, 2017 — and not just because Terminator 2 is a movie that already exists. Paramount has pulled its planned sequel to Terminator: Genisys (temporarily and confusingly titled Terminator 2) from its release schedule, replacing the potential follow-up to the Arnold Schwarzenegger and Emilia Clarke Terminator reboot with its Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson Baywatch reboot. Back before Terminator: Genisys came out last summer, Paramount had announced plans for a trilogy with sequels coming in 2017 and 2018, but after the tepid reception of Genisys, the studio didn’t show any sign it was moving forward on those sequels. The rights to the Terminator franchise revert back to James Cameron in 2019, which means that we probably won’t ever see Terminator 2: Genis-Us (or whatever it would be called), at least not from Paramount. Though, hey, James Cameron did say he liked Genisys.
