When it comes to the future, the career paths of the Divergent series and its directors keep … diverging: Deadline reports that director Robert Schwentke has chosen to go his separate way from the YA franchise, dropping out of the fourth and final film in the series, Ascendant. The reason seems to be simple burnout, as Schwentke had already shot Insurgent and the upcoming Allegiant back to back. Schwentke himself got the Insurgent gig after the sequel languished for a while without a director in the wake of Neil Burger’s departure. Ascendant is still sticking to its summer-2017 release date, which means a replacement needs to be found, pronto. To all the directorial hopefuls out there, may the odds be ever in your — wait, wrong series.
