The Red Hot Chili Peppers performed at a benefit concert for Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders in Los Angeles last night, where the rockers did a 12-song set of classics, deep tracks, and even a cover of David Bowie’s “Cracked Actor.†But perhaps the most marvelous spectacle of them all — Anthony Kiedis’s unwavering vocals notwithstanding — was the artistry on Chad Smith’s drum kit, which proudly displayed Sanders’s face morphed with Bowie’s Aladdin Sane cover. World, say hello to Bernie Stardust.
