Kendrick Lamar’s untitled unmastered. is giving fans another reason to call him king, as Billboard reports the surprise album debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 200. The March 4 release claimed the top spot with 178,000 units (142,000 in pure album sales) in its first week, according to Nielsen, toppling the likes of Adele (61,000 units), Rihanna (58,000), and Bieber (53,000). The feat marks the rapper’s second No. 1 on the 200, and it came in less than a year (To Pimp A Butterfly dropped March 16, 2015). The uu numbers aren’t as high as those for TPAB, which had nearly double in both categories, but that doesn’t make this chart-topper any less impressive: It puts Lamar in special company as only the third artist since last January to land multiple No. one’s in a less-than-12-month time frame, according to Billboard, which mentions Drake (If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, What a Time to Be Alive) and Future (DS2, WATTBA, Evol) as the others. All hail.
