Cuban comedian Luis Silva has a character called Pánfilo, who, in a running gag, always tries to call the U.S. President, and finds himself rebuffed. That is, until Obama announced a trip to Cuba and signed on for an appearance Silva’s show, which is watched by nearly two-thirds of the country each week. It’s the kind of sketch you might find near the end of an episode of SNL: The concept doesn’t really work, there’s a confused celebrity guest, and it just keeps going and going and going.
