In court documents filed this week to obtain a restraining order against Johnny Depp, citing domestic abuse, Amber Heard claims that Depp was “verbally and physically abusive†to her “during the entirety†of their relationship. In the newly released official documents, Heard — who married Depp in February 2015 after living with him since 2012 — recounts a notable instance of Depp’s behavior that occurred on her 30th birthday in April. He showed up “inebriated and high†to her birthday party at their Los Angeles residence, and after their guests left Heard states “Johnny grabbed me by the hair and violently shoved me to the floor. Johnny was also screaming and threatening me, taunting me to stand up … breaking nearly everything in his path.â€
The actress, who filed for divorce from Depp on Monday citing irreconcilable differences, brought multiple photographs containing evidence of the alleged abuse to court on Friday. She arrived with a bruised face, claiming Depp assaulted her with an iPhone a few days prior to embarking on a press tour for Alice Through the Looking Glass. The judge granted Heard a temporary restraining order, which requires Depp to stay 100 yards away from her. A hearing has been set for next month.
“Johnny has a long-held and widely-acknowledged public and private history of drug and alcohol abuse,†she continues in the documents. “He has a short fuse. He is often paranoid and his temper is extremely scary for me as it has proven many times to be physically dangerous and/or life-threatening to me.†She also states, among other claims, that she endured “excessive emotional, verbal and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included angry, hostile, humiliating and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority or disagreed with him … as his paranoia, delusions and aggression increased throughout our relationship so has my awareness of his continued substance abuse. Because of this, I am extremely afraid of Johnny and for my safety.†Depp has yet to respond personally to the allegations, although his attorney issued a statement saying Heard is “alleging abuse†as a way of securing spousal support.
