Our dream of a Good Wife expanded universe might be coming true: THR reports that Christine Baranski is in negotiations to reprise her role of Diane Lockhart in a TGW spinoff, with the magnificently attired attorney Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) also expected to make the jump. Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King are in talks to write the show’s pilot, though they’re too busy with the political satire BrainDead to stay on as showrunners for the spinoff.
Update: The network announced at its upfront presentation this afternoon that the spinoff is official, with an expectation of a 10- to 13-episode order; the pilot will indeed be written by the Kings. The as-yet-untitled show will be moving from CBS to air on CBS All-Access, the network’s $5.99-per-month streaming service (where the new Star Trek will also be aired), and will star Baranski and Jumbo. According to USA Today, the legal drama “will be told through the eyes of Diane’s young goddaughter and legal colleague, the offspring of her wealthy college roommate, whose family isn’t as picture-perfect as it seems.†How to celebrate this news? Perhaps with a slap.
