Some critics pigeonholed Jenny Slate’s Obvious Child as an “abortion comedy.†Seeing how wonderful that film was, hopefully she’ll have the same success with her new “infidelity, drug and familial betrayal†comedy Landline. Co-starring John Turturro, Edie Falco, and Abby Quinn, the ‘90s period piece explores the lives of the women in one Manhattan family. Directed and written by Obvious Child duo Gillian Robespierre and Elisabeth Holm respectively, Landline follows Quinn as teenager Ali as she “discovers her dad (Turturro) is having an affair. Older sister Dana (Slate) uncovers her own wild side. And their mother Pat (Falco) grapples with the truth that she can’t have it all, but her family still has each other.†Not to get anyone’s hopes up, but the plot seems almost perfectly primed for more of Slate’s thoughts on what your underwear looks like at the end of the day. Here’s hoping.
