The Marvel Cinematic Universe may be close to snapping up another Oscar winner: According to THR, Lupita Nyong’o is in negotiations for a starring role in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther, coming in 2018. Nyong’o’s potential character is unknown, but she’ll reportedly be the love interest for Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa. In the comics, T’Challa was married to Storm, of the X-Men, for years, a pairing we likely won’t see onscreen thanks to superhero rights issues. If Storm’s out, Nyong’o could be playing Monica Lynne, an American woman who dated T’Challa for a time, but a better guess would be that her character is a member of the Dora Milaje, the Black Panther’s all-female squadron of elite bodyguards. This has been today’s reminder that every actor will eventually do a superhero movie.
