Betting on the guaranteed audience of high-school kids who don’t want to do their reading, TNT has picked up a new series about a young William Shakespeare. Titled Will, the drama stars Laurie Davidson as the playwright, who’s making his way in the “punk-rock theater scene in 16th century London.†The pilot was written by Craig Pearce (Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, and The Great Gatsby) and directed by Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth). Will is set to premiere in 2017, and will be a fitting companion to ABC’s recently picked up Still Star-Crossed. Shakespeare: so hot right now.
Because you always wanted to see Niecy Nash run a crime ring, TNT has added the Scream Queens and Getting On alum to its nail salon dramedy pilot Claws, which is produced by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. Nash will play Desna Simms, the owner of the salon, and one of five “diverse and treacherous Florida manicurists.†The network has also ordered a pilot for Civil, in which the country plunges into a modern civil war after a divisive presidential election. Op-ed columnists will love it.
