Iin his Oscar-nominated Captain Phillips performance, Barkhad Abdi taught us that the pirate life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and now he joins the cast of the Blade Runner sequel to presumably remind us that not all robots are fun. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Adbi joined the sci-fi flick just a month before director Denis Villeneuve begins shooting. While details on specific characters have been kept a secret, Robin Wright and Ryan Gosling have been brought on to star, while Mackenzie Davis, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, and Carla Juri round out the rest of the cast. Hollywood’s favorite grump, Harrison Ford will, of course, revive his role as Deckard, because the septuagenarian has already put on his old Han Solo and Indiana Jones costumes recently, so he might as well retire a few androids while he’s at it. Hopefully Barkhad Abdi can use some of those aggressive negotiating tactics he learned playing a pirate to stay alive for the inevitable sequel to the sequel.Â
