Sparklers aside, the Fourth of July, a day of supposed American unity, can feel more than a bit fraught for minority groups systematically disenfranchised from America’s promises. Hush those worries, though, because John Cena is here to fight the good fight. Just in time for Independence Day, the WWE star released a PSA from the nonprofit Ad Council and the #WeAreAmerica campaign. In it, Cena instructs us about how to fly that American flag the right way, and it’s by flying all your other flags just as high. Says Cena: “Almost half the country belongs to minority groups. People who are lesbian, African American, bi, transgender, and Native American, and proud of it. After all, what’s more American than the freedom to celebrate the things that make us, us. This year, patriotism shouldn’t just be about pride of country. It should be about love.†Just like the founders intended.
