Less than a month before the Ray Kroc biopic, The Founder, was supposed to hit theaters, the Weinstein Company has decided to move it into the year-end Oscar derby: Deadline reports that the movie will now get a limited release on December 16, before opening nationally January 20. The Michael Keaton–led film, which aims to do for McDonald’s what The Social Network did for Facebook, was originally scheduled for Thanksgiving, before being moved up to August 5. Deadline notes that Keaton has appeared in the two previous Best Picture winners, and this push could be a sign the studio hopes the actor has been afflicted by literal Oscar magic. Last week, the Weinsteins also moved the opening of Tulip Fever from July to next February, for what seems like the opposite reason.
