Zone Out With These Psychedelic Garden Photos
Why not spend hours and hours photographing pretty flowers and mushrooms? Famed Swiss artistic duo Fischli/Weiss did, in a series of images so trippy they’re actually (weirdly) soothing.
The book Peter Fischli and David Weiss: Flowers and Mushrooms, published last month by Walther König, reprints lush, layered photographs the artists shot for a 1999 exhibit in Paris. Their saturated images playfully vacillate from kitsch to psychedelic, showing colorful berries, vivid flowers, weeds, and mushrooms. Hot-pink bleeding hearts drift into focus in one image, while a yellow butterfly hovers like a hazy cloud in another, as if behind glass.
As contemporary artists, Fischli/Weiss began collaborating in 1979, choosing unusual materials to create metaphysical experiments and post-minimalism processes that fused sculpture, photography, and video. They worked together for over 40 years until Weiss’s death, in 2012.
