Like the disheartening, chronologically impossible You’ve Got Mail fan-fic of your dreams, Ithaca — briefly but rightly — reunites Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks as the parents of a (human) messenger. The sentient-AOL is the actual center of the World War II–era story, which follows 14-year-old Homer (Alex Neustaedter) as he becomes a telegraph messenger in Ithaca after his brother (Jack Quaid) leaves for the war. Based on William Saroyan’s 1943 novel The Human Comedy, the drama marks Ryan’s directorial debut. Watch the trailer for Ithaca above; at the very least, it’ll help bide the time ’til Ryan’s obligatory Larry Crowne 2 stopover.
