Leave it to the BBC to fulfill all of our historical drama needs. (And our thirst for fancy costumes.) BBC One has announced plans to adapt the popular, critically acclaimed period-thriller The Miniaturist for television. Written by Jessie Burton and released in 2014, the novel — which will take the format of a three-part mini-series — follows a young woman in 17th-century Amsterdam who moves to the bustling city to become the wife of a wealthy merchant. However, after being presented with an exquisite dollhouse replica of their home by her husband as a wedding gift, an abundance of secrets and dangers begin to emerge when an enigmatic miniaturist furnishes it. It’s scheduled to air sometime in 2017 in the U.K., with filming beginning later this winter. In the wise words of Tracy Jordan, it’s sure to be a spooky, scary adaptation.
