Hello from the other side of the Adele-not-performing-at-the-Super-Bowl story. Weeks before the regular football season even begins, drama over the grand finale has taken hold of a classic mega-star/mega-corporation. After a week of rumors circulating about Adele possibly following in Left Shark’s footsteps and performing at the sports spectacular, the singer put our hopes and dreams to rest. “I’m not doing the Super Bowl,†she said at her Los Angeles concert on Saturday night. “I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really — I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I said no.†The NFL and the halftime show’s official sponsor, Pepsi, deny doing any asking, however. In an official joint statement the corporations said:
“The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele. We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else. We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston and we look forward to revealing that in good time.â€
So, as if in some bad teen movie, NFL and Pepsi floated out the idea of Adele going to the prom with them, but when she said “nah, not going to happen,†they went ahead and said, “Well, we were just wondering, it wasn’t like we were really asking. So dumb.â€
