When the Emmy Awards air this Sunday on ABC, don’t be alarmed if one of your favorite nominated television shows doesn’t get the airtime you expected. All of the technical (and other similarly rooted) awards occurred this weekend at the annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The winners of many categories have already been crowned, and thus some of this year’s biggest shows won’t be making an appearance at the main ceremony in a few days. Below, bid adieu to shows like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jessica Jones, which didn’t get Emmy love in the major categories, and see how they fared at the Creative Emmys.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
The Rachel Bloom–fronted comedy nabbed wins for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Choreography (for “I’m So Good at Yoga,†“A Boy Band Made Up of Four Joshes,†and “Settle For Meâ€). It lost its other two categories — Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics (for “Settle For Meâ€) and Outstanding Main Title Theme Music.
Outlander
The time-travel drama lost both of the categories it was in contention for — Outstanding Design for a Narrative Period Program (One Hour or More) and Outstanding Costumes for a Period/Fantasy Series, Limited Series or Movie. The series received no acting nominations.
Marvel’s Jessica Jones
Of the two categories the Marvel drama was nominated for, the series broke even. It won for Outstanding Original Main Title Music, but lost in Outstanding Main Title Design. As with Outlander, Jessica Jones received zero acting nominations.
The Man in the High Castle
Like Jessica Jones, Amazon’s alternate-history drama won half the awards it was nominated for. It netted wins for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series and Outstanding Main Title Design, while losing out on Outstanding Special Visual Effects and Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary or Fantasy Program (One Hour or More). (Game of Thrones won in both of those categories.)
Full Frontal With Samantha Bee
The beloved new talk show earned only one nomination this year, for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, which went to Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.
Girls
Peter Scolari was the only nomination Girls received this year — for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series — and he won, for his portrayal of Hannah Horvath’s father.
Making a Murderer
Netflix’s true-crime series about Steven Avery fared extremely well, winning four of its six nominations. It came out on top for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series, Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program, Outstanding Directing for a Nonfiction Program, and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Non-Fiction Program. Its two losses were for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Nonfiction Program (Single or Multi-Camera) and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Nonfiction Program (Single or Multi-Camera).
Archer
The animated spy romp won its only nomination — Outstanding Animated Program — beating out Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, Phineas and Ferb, and South Park.
RuPaul’s Drag Race
RuPaul nabbed his first Emmy win for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition, while the show lost out to The Wiz Live! for Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction, or Reality Programming.
