Does George R. R. Martin have a boatload of work to do as an executive producer, writer, and story consultant on the Emmy-award-hogging mega-hit HBO series Game of Thrones? You bet. Does Martin still have to deliver two more highly anticipated, dense installments in A Song of Ice and Fire, the book series in which said TV series is based? Just ask the fans currently throwing things at their computer at the thought of Martin taking on another project, yelling at the screen, “Give us Winds of Winter now!†Still, that’s not stopping Martin from looking ever so slightly into the future. Speaking backstage at the Emmys with other members of the Game of Thrones cast and crew, Martin answered the question about a potential prequel in a way that might give some viewers hope. “I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to Game of Thrones, so there’s a lot of material there and I’m writing more,†Martin said. But wait! Don’t get excited about seeing Ned Stark as a strapping young lad and/or get angry at Martin for not finishing what he started just yet. “At the moment we still have this show to finish and I still have two books to finish so that’s all speculation,†Martin reminded everyone. Still don’t be too surprised if we hear about a potential show about Robert’s Rebellion before the final two GoT seasons are through.
