Johnny Depp will be taking on another biopic role, this time in the upcoming drama Labyrinth, which chronicles the investigations of the murders of rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., according to The Hollywood Reporter. The script will be based on the prodigiously named book that is also a pretty thorough description of the plot, Labyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., the Implication of Death Row Records’ Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal. Depp will play detective Russell Poole, who discovered ties between the LAPD, local gangs, and Death Row Records during his investigations of both B.I.G. and Shakur’s murders. Poole’s conflicts with the department eventually led to his early retirement from the force in protest. Brad Furman, who has directed movies like Runner Runner, The Lincoln Lawyer, and this year’s The Infiltrator will helm the movie, which has a lot to live up to in the legacy of movies named Labyrinth.
