In case you were wondering how they taught Grumpy Cat how to sing and dance for her Broadway debut in Cats last night, it turns out she was actually more of an one-night-only guest of honor toted out to wild applause. (Also, hopefully you didn’t tell anyone how you thought cats could sing or dance; you would have looked positively insane.) Cats performer Quentin Earl Darrington, who plays Old Deuteronomy, announced the Instagram star to the stage with all the gravitas befitting a cat being publicly lauded by humans in cat suits. “You’ve heard of several different kinds of cat — practical cats, dramatical cats, pragmatical cats, fanatical cats, to name a few. But, there’s one more cat that you have yet to meet,†Darrington said after last night’s performance at Broadway’s Neil Simon Theatre. “Now, before we crawl off into the alley and carry on with the rest of our evening, we would like to introduce to you a very special cat … a Grumpy Cat.†The cast named Grumpy Cat an Honorary Jellicle Cat, the second-highest honor she’s ever received after landing the lead in Holiday Inn, The New Irving Berlin Musical.
