If the Broadway sensation Hamilton has piqued your interest in the real historical figure that is Alexander Hamilton, you’ll be pleased to know that you can now purchase artifacts from the man’s life for a comparatively bargain price. The Hamilton family is releasing hundreds of manuscripts and letters that they’ve had in their possession for 200 years and putting them up for auction at Sotheby’s. According to the New York Times, the new cache of documents has not been fully catalogued, but includes pieces that are speculated to fetch more than $200,000 from buyers. But Selby Kiffer, the auction house’s international senior specialist of books and manuscripts, suspects that some items from the collection could be purchased for less than the price of a scalped ticket to the musical Hamilton. “There will be something not only for the dedicated collector of American manuscripts,†said Kiffer, “but I hope also for all the not-yet collectors who have become entranced with the story of Alexander Hamilton through the musical.†So now that you’ve spent $2,500 to see the show, you can use what’s left to buy a love letter from Hamilton to his wife, Eliza. Happy bidding.
